On July 24, 2023, the team set off from their homestay near Sembalun, brimming with excitement. After completing registration at the base, they hopped onto a pickup truck that carried them to the starting point. To save time, they opted for motorbike rides up to the second post. While unconventional, they embraced the decision, emphasizing their intent to support the local economy.
From the second post, their trek truly began. The trail opened into a vast savannah, with rolling green fields that seemed to stretch endlessly. The mild incline allowed the hikers to savor the view, a gentle start before the tougher climbs ahead. Every step revealed the unique beauty of Mt. Rinjani’s landscape, from grassy plains to dramatic cliffs shaped by Lombok’s 2018 earthquake.
Challenging Trails and Vibrant Rest Stops
After two hours of steady trekking, the team reached the shadowy respite of Pos Bayangan, a waypoint en route to the third post. Here, a bustling warung provided snacks and refreshments, a reminder of the resourcefulness of the locals who carried supplies up these trails.
At Pos Tiga, the group paused to refuel with a hearty meal prepared by their porters.
